Around Collyvale
Grimple the Grumblegruff
Troublemaker · Edge of the Listening Woods
Grimple is Collyvale’s resident grumbler. He is prickly, suspicious and very good at pretending he does not care — even when he cares quite a lot.
He sometimes hides things, refuses to join in or says something unkind when he feels left out. The others can understand his feelings without pretending his behavior is all right.

A little closer
A few things about Grimple the Grumblegruff
Not completely terrible
This is about as close as Grimple gets to saying he enjoyed something.
Leaves everywhere
Twigs and leaves are forever getting caught in his shaggy fur. He insists this is deliberate.
A difficult apology
Grimple can say sorry, but usually needs a long think and at least one enormous sigh first.
Secret soft spot
Mrs. Bramble’s warm kitchen is one of the few places where his shoulders slowly uncross.
Copycat problem
Echo thinks Grimple is magnificent and copies his grumbles — usually much louder.
Big feelings
Grimple helps children see that feeling cross, jealous or left out is okay, but hurting someone else is not.
Better words
He is gradually learning that “Can I join in?” works better than knocking things over.
Still Grimple
Growing kinder does not turn him cheerful. He remains gloriously grumbly.
